Two Renault models have received awards in the Auto Trader New Car Awards 2021, voted for by 148,000 owners who drive and experience the cars every day. The Renault Zoe was voted “Best Car for New Drivers” and the Renault Captur was named as “Best Car for City Drivers.” The Renault Clio also received a mention, with a “Highly Commended” in the Best Car for New Drivers category.
New drivers value cars that are easy and fuss-free to drive, simple to park and have affordable running costs. Renault has been a master of such models for decades, going all the way back to the classic Renault 4 and Renault 5, that were designed from the outset to open up motoring to younger drivers. Little surprise then that two out of the three finalists in this category are Renault.
As Europe’s best-selling electric car, the Zoe benefits from Renault’s early entry into the EV market and experience supporting buyers making the switch. Indeed, in the case of many new drivers, the affordability and appeal of the Zoe may mean their first car is electric and they’ll never have to make that emotional leap that those who’ve grown up with internal combustion engines sometimes struggle with.
Meanwhile, cities are especially demanding environments for owning and driving a car, and require a combination of comfort, technology and practicality to help ease the strain of stop-start traffic, parking and daily chores. The Renault Captur, with its blend of style, compact proportions and comfort, proved to be the most popular with owners.
Owner feedback received on the Renault Captur included: “I love being that bit higher – visibility is better.” “It’s really easy to park and drive but doesn’t feel like a small car,” commented another, while “the amount of space in a small footprint” was also mentioned. Across the board, comfort was highly rated in the Captur, an important attribute if you’re spending a lot of time in your car and helping to take the stress out of urban driving.
Autotrader describes the Renault Clio as “one the best superminis you can buy. It’s great value for money, yet feels refreshingly sophisticated thanks to an interior that majors on quality and space. Most models are well equipped, and every Clio comes with a range of advanced safety features, while the new hybrid model offers cheaper running costs.”
