The numbers are officially in, and the Renault 5 E-Tech electric has taken the crown as Britain’s most popular electric vehicle for April, according to the latest SMMT registration data. This milestone comes as UK drivers increasingly turn toward electric mobility in the face of rising fuel costs, with Renault’s EV mix now accounting for a massive 49% of its total passenger car sales.

To mark one year of deliveries, Renault is introducing key upgrades to the R5 without touching its accessible price. New features include:
One-Pedal Driving- Now standard on techno+ trims and above, this allows for a smoother, more intuitive urban driving experience by using regenerative braking to bring the car to a stop using only the accelerator.
Smart Safety- A new interior camera-based driver attention alert system helps detect signs of fatigue or distraction
Enhanced Customisation- New ‘PoweR5’ decals are available for the rear wings for those wanting to add an extra touch of personality.

The appeal of the Renault 5 goes beyond its retro-modern looks. With a range of up to 252 miles (WLTP) and a rapid-charge time of just 30 minutes (15–80%), it’s built for both city life and longer journeys.
As Renault UK Managing Director Adam Wood highlights, switching to an EV can save motorists an average of £650 a year in fuel compared to petrol cars, making the "best-seller" title no surprise. With the full Electric Car Grant (ECG) applied, the R5 isn't just a style icon; it’s one of the smartest financial moves on the road today.
