The New Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric: A Joyful, Affordable Revolution for the City

For over 30 years, the Renault Twingo has been synonymous with freedom, ingenuity and urban optimism. The original model transformed the A-segment through its cheerful personality, clever modularity and instantly recognisable one-box silhouette. Today, Renault is ready to spark that same revolution again with the Twingo E-Tech electric, a modern reboot designed to make electric mobility accessible, practical and truly enjoyable for everyone.

This new-generation Twingo is more than an update, it’s a complete reinvention of the small city car. Built to be affordable, sustainable and delightfully fun, it arrives with a targeted starting price below £20,000, making electric driving within reach for more European households. And as the very first model developed under Renault’s ambitious “Leap 100” programme, it was designed and built in just 100 weeks, proving that innovation can move fast without compromising quality.

Bringing Back the Spirit of the Original Twingo

The new Twingo E-Tech electric carries forward the playful essence of the 1992 icon while reimagining it for modern urban life. Its distinctive one-box shape returns with cleaner surfaces, curvy lines and a friendly “smile” inspired by the original grille. Expressive full LED lighting adds a modern twist, including cheerful arched daytime running lights and half-moon shaped rear lamps that remain illuminated even when the headlights are off.

Colour plays a major role too. New shades like Absolute Red, Absolute Green and Mango Yellow enhance the Twingo’s upbeat personality, while design teams studied every contour and reflection to give the compact silhouette real depth and presence. A special mention goes to Absolute Green, faithfully carried over from the 2023 show car.

Inside, that same cheerful spirit continues. A colourful, cylindrical dashboard appears to float in front of the driver, while playful nods to the original Twingo can be found throughout the cabin. Even the iconic slogan: “A vous d'inventer la vie qui va avec”, appears on seat straps, bringing the car’s creative heritage into the present.

Small Outside, Spacious Inside

At 3.79 metres long, the Twingo E-Tech electric is perfect for navigating narrow streets and tight parking spaces. Yet its interior belongs to a larger category, offering rear knee room of up to 160 mm, class-leading shoulder width and a boot capacity of up to 360 litres.

Much of this versatility comes from two independent sliding rear seats, each able to move 17 cm independently from both the passenger compartment and the boot. The seats also recline in three positions, and both fold individually to expand load capacity to over 1,000 litres.

More than a dozen open storage compartments, totalling 19 litres, keep everyday essentials within easy reach. With thoughtful touches everywhere, the Twingo E-Tech electric is designed to make life simpler, brighter and more organised.

Electric Power Designed for Real Life

At the heart of the new Twingo is a compact, lightweight 60 kW (82 hp) electric motor, perfectly matched to daily urban use. Thanks to the car’s light weight (from 1,200 kg), acceleration is lively: 0–50 km/h takes just 3.85 seconds. The new 27.5 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery is a first for Renault. Using abundant materials like iron and phosphate, LFP technology reduces reliance on critical metals while lowering costs and improving sustainability. Combined with optimised aerodynamics, including a CdA of 0.656, underfloor fairing and rear light fins, the Twingo achieves a WLTP range of up to 163 miles, ideal for the average European driver’s 22-mile-per-day routine.

Charging is tailored for convenience. A 6.6 kW AC charger is standard, with optional 11 kW AC and 50 kW DC fast charging enabling 10–80% in around 30 minutes. The Twingo also includes bidirectional charging as standard, including V2L, allowing owners to power appliances up to 3,700W directly from the vehicle.

Technology That Makes Life Easier

The Twingo E-Tech electric brings features rarely seen in this segment, starting with a dual-screen setup: a 7-inch digital driver display and a 10-inch multimedia screen. On Techno models, this system runs the acclaimed OpenR Link with Google built-in, offering Google Maps with EV route planning, Assistant voice control and access to more than 100 apps including Amazon Music, Prime Video, HBO Max, Vivaldi browser and SongPop for Renault.

The new Reno avatar acts as a smart co-pilot, capable of adjusting vehicle settings, managing charging schedules and answering practical questions. It can respond to voice commands, offer proactive suggestions and even use embedded ChatGPT (4o mini version) to answer general knowledge queries.

Safety That Goes Beyond Protection

Renault’s Human First Programme ensures the Twingo E-Tech electric arrives with safety technology typically found in much higher segments. This includes:

  • Six adaptive airbags
  • Advanced driver monitoring with an interior camera
  • Fireman Access for rapid battery extinguishing
  • QRescue QR code for emergency services
  • Up to 24 driver assistance feature
  • Innovations like Safety Score and Safety Coach analyse driving behaviour and provide personalised feedback to help reduce accident risk. Parking is made even easier with hands-free parking, 12 sensors, occupant safe exit alert and rear cross-traffic alert.

A Bright, Joyful Future for City Driving

The new Renault Twingo E-Tech electric does more than bring an icon back to life, it sets new standards for affordability, sustainability and user-friendly electric mobility. It captures everything people loved about the original Twingo and adds modern technology, improved practicality and a stronger commitment to environmental responsibility.

Launching in 2027, it arrives ready to redefine the A-segment and bring a refreshing spark of optimism to city streets across Europe.

The spirit of Twingo is back, cheerful, inventive and more electric than ever.
