The UK government has extended the Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant until 31 March 2027, making it cheaper than ever to switch to electric.

What's Changing?

From 1 April 2026, the grant for most applicants is increasing from £350 to £500 per socket. This covers up to 75% of the cost to buy and install a smart home charger.

Who is eligible?

  • A Renter or Flat Owner: Resident in any rental property or a flat you own
  • A Homeowner with On-Street Parking: Support is now available for charging gullies (cross pavement channels)
  • A Landlord: Residential landlords can claim up to 200 grants per year
  • A School or Business: State-funded schools can receive up to £2,000 per socket

Who can claim the EV chargepoint grant?

Renters, flat owners, and landlords with dedicated off-street parking are eligible. You must own or lease an eligible electric vehicle.

How much is the grant worth?

From 1 April 2026, the grant covers 75% of the cost, up to £500 per socket (previously £350). State-funded schools can claim up to £2,000.

What if I don’t have a driveway?

If you have on-street parking, you can now apply for a grant to install a "charging gully" a safe channel in the pavement that lets you charge from your home supply.

How do I apply?

  1. Find an OZEV-authorised installer.
  2. They will confirm your eligibility and provide a quote.
  3. Apply via the government’s "Find a Grant" service.
  4. Your installer claims the grant and deducts it from your final bill.

Are there limits for landlords?

Residential landlords can claim for up to 200 properties per year. Note that commercial landlord grants are scheduled to end on 31 March 2026.
